Chinese Buy Runescape for $300 Million

Recommended Posts

Why are people assuming a chinese company buying a company would ruin the game? Had this been an american company, no body would be bitching. All a bunch of racists lol.

Its very possible that this company will do good for jagex. Just because the last company added microtransactions doesn't mean the next company would be the same. Its in their best interest to remain profitable, therefore deterring the player base by adding more things that THEY KNOW we don't want will do the exact opposite.

If the chinese purchase jagex, they will most likely still keep the same management team jagex has today.

You have no idea what the fuck you are talking about. Have you ever played a chineese MMO? If you thought the microtransactions were bad in RS3 you are in for a world of hurt. Additionally, this is a fucking mining company that is currently operating at a 50 million per year budget deficit. They are trying to cash out quickly, which means short term aggressive microtransactions. Look up the history of Chinese investors buying games. The history is there.

Or you can just keep saying racist convince yourself that nothing will change.

Yeah you're right, this has nothing to do with racism, it's just facts. This company is looking for a quick buck.

It's important to note that nothing is finalized yet though, the deal has not gone through, it's just early stages of talk.

People are bitching because China is known for pay to win free to play games.

And you're retarded for assuming that just because 1 chinese MMO has horrible micro transactions, that this would be the same.

Oh look, the biggest game right now is now fully china owned. Further, more than 90% of Riot games are now owned by Chinese companies. Now you tell me, how's league of legends looking so far?

Give us your sources regarding the $50 Million deficit and I can stop assuming you're pulling this information out of your ass.

They might make a separate chinese version of the game for the market in China and could mean more market for bots :)

I don't think the Chinese company wants to change the game but that they want to introduce it to China cause it is fairly active in the West. Many Chinese companies know that what is working in China might not be as successful in other parts of the world and thus don't want to change anything but just expand the market.

Just like what Tencent did and is doing with Riot. They don't want to interfere with what is working in the West but just expand the market to China.

Hope this means big things for Runescape :)

I mean even if they did sell a bunch of gold, then the only thing that's going to happen is the market for gold to drop. If there is so much gold being generated then prices will drop. Obviously "If" they (chinese) buy it they are going to bot the most profitable way meaning, they will make changes in the system somewhere that makes botting easy and profitable
"for there scripts". Someone else will find that profitable way then it spreads. After a while you will just see gold become like $0.30/m.  This is just my opinion im not 100% sure on any of this lol I just like to brainstorm. But I do know as a fact people in chinese prison had to gold farm on world of warcraft back in the day and sell the gold to make money. Maybe the same basic thing.

But do you think they are just looking to spawn a bunch of gold sell it and then, people buy it. You know how much money will come in the game. TONS. I don't think they would just spawn it when that would ruin the eco. Then people stop playing, Then there goes money from members, then people quit, sponsors don't sponsor lol. I don't think they will exactly spawn gold but I do think they will just make a huge gold farm.

Or they'd just go the same root as loads of other online games and sell gold on their official website. In the exact same way they already do with bonds.. Would be literally so pointless botting themselves.

Yeah I will agree with twitch, I don't think they would do that. There is a method to their madness but what it is, is mysterious.

Why the hassle if the outcome is similar?

    • Hello everyone,

Last week we tried to roll out Auth0 Login, but we lost that battle. Now it's time to win the war!

      Important changes

When logging into the client, you'll now have to enter your Auth0 account credentials instead of your forums credentials

Note: 2FA is still handled through your forums account (for the time being)

      Changes for existing users

You'll have to link your Auth0 account to your forums account here: https://tribot.org/forums/settings/login/?service=11

Auth0 accounts have been created for most existing users. Please use your forums email address and password to login.

      Important notes

Make sure to verify your email address upon creating a new Auth0 account

When we mention your Auth0 account, we mean your account used for auth.tribot.org as displayed below
      • 64 replies
    • To better support the upcoming changes (TRiBot X, new repository), we're switching our login handler to Auth0. Instead of logging in with the standard form, you'll now be required to login through our Auth0 application.

All existing accounts which have been used within approximately the past year have been imported into Auth0 using the same email and password combination which has been stored on the forums.

What does this mean for users?

Your account credentials are now even more securely stored

You'll be able to login via Facebook, Google, and others in the future

Is there anything users have to do differently now?

Existing users: You'll have to login with the standard login, open your Account Settings, then link your Auth0 account

New users: You'll be redirected to our Auth0 app (auth.tribot.org) where you'll be able to create an account

      Why was this change made?

The new apps we are creating (such as the new repository) aren't able to use the forums to handle user logins

To centralize all user accounts in one area

To ensure that the client login doesn't go down when the forums are having problems

      To speed up our development

      Other considerations

There's no documentation or official support for using Invision Community combined with Auth0, so there are still a few kinks we're working out

We're in the works of creating an account management panel specifically for Auth0 accounts (ETA August)

It's not possible to change email addresses for the time being (this will be resolved this August)

Changing passwords is a weird process for the time being. To change your password, you'll have to use the "Don't remember your password" tool on the Auth0 login page

    • Over the past month, we've been working hard on TRiBot's new repository - a much needed update. This change has been deemed necessary for TRiBot X, and will allow us to really speed up development of all aspects of TRiBot.

Today we are going to share what we've been working on!

Now you must be wondering what kind of features the new repository will have.... well, you'll have to be patient for a little while longer. We're still figuring out various technical aspects so we can't provide answers to all possible questions. We're also focusing on development rather than writing about it so that everyone can get access to our latest developments at lightning speed. I will however answer a few users' questions.

We're planning on a release of this early to mid August, giving users some goodies before TRiBot X's release.

Thank you all for being patient. I hope everyone is excited as much as I am!

    • Over the past few months, I’ve been working diligently on a new project - TRiBot X. Everything has been written from the ground up, with all of the best practices of software engineering. Every aspect of TRiBot has been re-imagined to support three main goals: flexibility, useability, and reliability.
