YoHoJo's Assorted Market Safety Tips

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, YoHoJo here, a long time member of various Runescape botting forums and black markets with over 8 years of experience.
I'll just be using this thread to give you guys my various tips/advice on how to stay safe in the black market section!
I will be periodically editing this thread with more tips and even adding in your guys' advice (with credit of course).

PayPal Payments can ALWAYS be Charged Back

  • If you receive a payment for any sort of virtual goods though PayPal it can always easily be charged back by the purchaser.
  • Contrary to popular belief a 'gift' payment or any sort of 'note' will NOT keep you safe from charge-backs.
  • Scammeres can file an "Unauthorized Transaction" or a "I haven't received my item." dispute.
  • Since you are selling virtual goods, there is no way for us to prove the items were delivered (PayPal doesn't care for video game footage/images) and you will lose the dispute.

Skype Display Name vs 'Skype Name'

  • When trading a user on Skype make sure to check their Skype Name, and not just their Display Name.
  • The Skype Name can not be changed, and is set for each account, while
  • Display Name can be charged to absolutely anything!
  • To see this, right click the name on your Skype contact list, click View Profile, and then check the Skype Name.

It's Best To Request PMs
Although instant messaging programs such at Skype are much more convenient to use than PM systems, it's always best to request a PM on the forums just once in order to confirm the user identities. Sometimes users' IM accounts may become hacked, therefore a PM is the best way to ensure you are talking with the right user.

Edited, to hide trilez skype name Matt

You confuse me...You made this thread about dealing in the market i.e. selling gold etc, you have gold selling thread; yet you made a bot that reports other bots? Your logic makes no sense.

Please don't quote the OP (especially if it's long), pet peeve of mine D:

Read my OPs of the threads I made about my bot reporter bots.

I only dislike the low level, default clothed, obvious scum botters, and my script only reports them.

Don't be obvious and a plague go the game and I don't mind that much :).

Either way market safety has nothing to do with botters really (although yes a lot of market activity is fueled by botting, there would still be a market without bots), and being safe in the market is important no matter what!

Also use a mm?

Yes of course using an trustworthy MM is always helpful, I'm just trying to add tips which are lesser known or less obvious.

The tips I've provided still apply too when using an MM! MM should never MM the PP payment, just the GP and the PP should be sent straight from buying to seller.

Also you should check the MM's Skype Name too, often times scammers "add an MM" to the call who is an imposter!

What do you suggest for Real Money transfers?

I understand Paypal can be charged back, so what would be a safe alternative to selling our ingame wealth for rl currency?

They're various alternatives on ways to receive RL exchanges. To list a few, that I am aware of:

- MoneyPak

- Western Union

I agree with this, use a trusted MM, there are too many scammers on this forum.

Or just use an MM, and have the mm teamview?

Alright guys you are all just saying the same thing as the original person who posted this, to whom I've already replied to.

So yes, use a trusted MM when applicable, but my tips still apply to keeping yourself safe even when using an MM.

Sometimes MMs charge fees, and it's sometimes hard to line up having 3 people all online at the same time in order to a trade, it's just easier, faster, and more convenient to do a 1:1 trade.

So how do i prevent charge backs

The best thing to do is get as MUCH information about the trade as you can.

Video, screenshots, an email from the buyers PP email, etc.

I like to get a picture of their ID card sent as an attachment from their PP email as evidence.

Requesting this weeds out all scammers and has never failed me yet.

tell them to send you the payment as a gift and they cant charge that back you know.

You didn't read the guide, that is not true at all :/. Simply telling PP it was a gift does not stop chargebacks whatsoever. They can simply state that it was an Unauthorized Transaction and most likely get their money back easily.

  • Our picks

    • Hi everyone,

I'd like to thank everyone for their patience in this transition period. Since last week, we've worked out the remaining bugs with this integration.

Some users have still been having issues with connecting their forums account to their Auth0 account. To resolve this, we've imported all forums accounts into Auth0.

Unfortunately, the accounts which were imported today were using an unsupported password hashing algorithm. Hence, random passwords were set during the import.

What does this mean for me?

If you've previously linked your forums account to your Auth0 account, you don't have to do anything. Nothing changes for you.

If you haven't logged in via our new login yet,

Try logging in with your forums email address and the last password you used

If you are unable to login, please use the "Forgot password" tool on the login page:
Follow the instructions to reset your password

    • Hello everyone,

Last week we tried to roll out Auth0 Login, but we lost that battle. Now it's time to win the war!

      Important changes

When logging into the client, you'll now have to enter your Auth0 account credentials instead of your forums credentials

Note: 2FA is still handled through your forums account (for the time being)

      Changes for existing users

You'll have to link your Auth0 account to your forums account here: https://tribot.org/forums/settings/login/?service=11

Auth0 accounts have been created for most existing users. Please use your forums email address and password to login.

      Important notes

Make sure to verify your email address upon creating a new Auth0 account

When we mention your Auth0 account, we mean your account used for auth.tribot.org as displayed below

    • To better support the upcoming changes (TRiBot X, new repository), we're switching our login handler to Auth0. Instead of logging in with the standard form, you'll now be required to login through our Auth0 application.

All existing accounts which have been used within approximately the past year have been imported into Auth0 using the same email and password combination which has been stored on the forums.

What does this mean for users?

Your account credentials are now even more securely stored

You'll be able to login via Facebook, Google, and others in the future

Is there anything users have to do differently now?

Existing users: You'll have to login with the standard login, open your Account Settings, then link your Auth0 account

New users: You'll be redirected to our Auth0 app (auth.tribot.org) where you'll be able to create an account

      Why was this change made?

The new apps we are creating (such as the new repository) aren't able to use the forums to handle user logins

To centralize all user accounts in one area

To ensure that the client login doesn't go down when the forums are having problems

      To speed up our development

      Other considerations

There's no documentation or official support for using Invision Community combined with Auth0, so there are still a few kinks we're working out

We're in the works of creating an account management panel specifically for Auth0 accounts (ETA August)

It's not possible to change email addresses for the time being (this will be resolved this August)

Changing passwords is a weird process for the time being. To change your password, you'll have to use the "Don't remember your password" tool on the Auth0 login page

    • Over the past month, we've been working hard on TRiBot's new repository - a much needed update. This change has been deemed necessary for TRiBot X, and will allow us to really speed up development of all aspects of TRiBot.

Today we are going to share what we've been working on!

Now you must be wondering what kind of features the new repository will have.... well, you'll have to be patient for a little while longer. We're still figuring out various technical aspects so we can't provide answers to all possible questions. We're also focusing on development rather than writing about it so that everyone can get access to our latest developments at lightning speed. I will however answer a few users' questions.

We're planning on a release of this early to mid August, giving users some goodies before TRiBot X's release.

Thank you all for being patient. I hope everyone is excited as much as I am!

    • Over the past few months, I’ve been working diligently on a new project - TRiBot X. Everything has been written from the ground up, with all of the best practices of software engineering. Every aspect of TRiBot has been re-imagined to support three main goals: flexibility, useability, and reliability.
